The Qualicum Refugee Sponsorship Group 2017 is a network of community volunteers who are working towards the re-settlement of a second refugee family in the Qualicum area of Vancouver Island, B.C., Canada.

The Johdee family was welcomed to Qualicum Beach in July 2016 from a refugee camp in Thailand, where they had lived for over twenty years. Both parents are now employed in the community and their children are enrolled in local schools. As the sponsorship group that made this possible finishes its work in July 2017, a new group has been formed to help another refugee family settle in the Qualicum area.

Leading the efforts is a core group of 12 volunteers who are coordinating the fundraising and sponsorship process in partnership with the Anglican Diocese of B.C. which will serve as the Sponsorship Agreement Holder (SAH) for the re-settlement of a new family in 2017.

Updates will be posted regularly on this website about our progress. We welcome the help and support from everyone in the Qualicum area and beyond. Financial support is needed to cover the start-up costs and to support the family during its first year in the Qualicum area. Housing for a new family is a major challenge. Additionally, volunteers will be needed to help with numerous functions. If you are interested in helping out please check out our Volunteer Page.
